Who we are

It's time to axolotl questions.

With a bachelor's in law, a master's in tech law , and lectureships at leading European universities, Haroon Khan possesses several years of legal scholarly experience in technology and human rights, AI governance, and the relationship between evolving technologies and security.

Currently a doctoral candidate conducting research on the subjectivity of trustworthiness as it relates to artificially intelligent systems, Haroon's work is grounded in active, ongoing research and practice at the frontier of the field. In addition to his ongoing work, Haroon has spent time on regulatory theory, extremism and radicalisation in boys and young men in the "manosphere", and the incel / alt-right movement: all phenomena which are driven algorithmically at an alarming rate.

His work has given him insight into the right-wing social media pipeline, the dangers of social media in the context of youth engagement, and how these behaviors and norms can insidiously sneak their way into classrooms worldwide.

Beyond the Desk

Haroon's research and advisory work has contributed to real-world policy outcomes, including advising amendments to various governments, international intelligence agencies, and lawmakers. Engagements include having shared research with EUROPOL, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Dutch and Swiss governments, and international conferences across Europe.

As a former university lecturer and curriculum designer at leading Dutch institutions, Haroon's teaching has spanned AI ethics, EU law, international security, and crisis communications, as well as teaching about teaching itself, leading workshops on innovative and cross-cultural approaches to education.

Additional experience includes service in the Swiss infantry corps as a non-commissioned officer. Presently, he is contracted on a part time basis as a specialist in the air and space program, researching R&D compliance with international law. He is also a Young AI Leader in the city of Geneva, and is the creative lead and assistant managing editor of the Helsinki Geoeconomics Society's audiovisual department.
